
About Maite
Maite Hontelé is a Dutch trumpet player renowned for her deep connection to Latin music. Born in the Netherlands, she developed a passion for salsa and son cubano, leading her to build a successful career in Colombia, where she became a celebrated artist. With a distinctive sound and a love for rhythm and melody, she has performed worldwide, sharing stages and recording studios with legends like Rubén Blades, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Oscar D’León, Orquesta Aragón, Vicente García and many others. She recorded five albums as a bandleader and received Latin Grammy nominations in 2014 and 2019.
After taking a break from playing, she returned to the flugelhorn in 2023 and became the conductor of the NJJO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra of The Netherlands). She also
performs in a duo with Cuban pianist Ramón Valle, with a new album set for release in September 2025.
In addition to her musical career, Maite works as host presenter for Dutch television, bringing her expertise and enthusiasm for music to a broader audience.
